Response to Reading #1 – Characterize Becca. You should briefly describe the character, (not just physical description, but emotional, her personality, etc.). Examine what motivates this character. What do others think of her and say to and about her that helps us learn about her character. Discuss if you believe she is realistic or not.

Becca is a very driven woman she has the drive to find things and to care for people like her grandmother. She is able to use her caring ability to go see her grandmother in the nursing home to talk to her and be with Gemma when needed. Becca’s sisters say that she spends to much time with others and caring for others, but her dad says that she is driven and can find what ever she puts her mind to it. Stan her boss also knows that she can search and learn anything she needs to find because she is such a great writer. With the amount of drive and ability to chase down what she wants she is very realistic in what she wants.
I agree Zeb, Becca is a very caring person. She makes sacrifices for the ones she loves, and she is very different compared to her sisters. She also is good at keeping promises, and is determined to keep her promise to Gemma.
I wish I would have thought of that to describe her! “Driven” is an extremely fitting word to use when describing Becca. You came up with some really good points to back up your characterization, too!
I like how you described her as driven also! She knows she has to keep her promise to Gemma and she is determined to do so. Becca is the type of person that won’t quit fighting for what she wants even if people make fun of her.
I too think that Becca is a very driven person who is very caring for people like Gemma. She even cares for her sisters who treat her like complete garbage. Even at the gathering after the funeral she has the ability to see that even Slyvia is somewhat hurting over the death of Gemma even though it comes off as anger. I also believes too that she is very driven in finding out her grandmother’s past and keeping the promise that she made too Gemma to find the castle even though it might sound completely crazy to some like Sylvia and Shana.
I also agree Zeb Becca is very driven and she is caring for others a lot. She visited Gemma everyday when she needed to be. Now that they found the box that belonged to Gemma Becca has not given up on finding out what they all mean. It seems as though she is about to find out a clue that might be a small break through. This could help Becca find out more things about Gemma like what her name was, where she came from, if she was the princess in the story of Briar Rose and who the prince was.
Very well put Zeb Burton. You really focused on how driven Becca is. And that is not bad at all! Because it is so incredibly true. Even before her grandmother dies, she is so driven to take care of her. After her grandmother passing, she becomes more determined to find out more about her grandmothers past! (which happens to be a goal of mine for my grandmother.) And to make a prediction, I thing the castle is the same castle we talked about in eglish class.
I completely agree with how you characterized Becca. Driven does describe Becca in all aspects. She was there for her grandmother while she was in the nursing home and visited her everyday. Even after her grandmother’s passing, she was driven to find out the truth behind her grandmother and the castle. With Becca being driven, confident and strong willed she will find the truth about everything.
I completely agree with how you characterized Becca. I didn’t think to use the word “driven” but it does completely describe her in the best way possible. She was driven to see and be there for her grandmother everyday while she was in the Nursing Home and is still there for her even after her grandmother has passed away which is incredible! She has the drive to help which you can’t say for her other sisters who don’t really want anything to do with their grandmothers past of future. I do think that Becca will reach the information on her grandmothers past with all her ambition and drive to do so.
I agree fully with you! Becca is a very driven young women. I think she is so driven to find out what her Gemma’s life was like before because they have so much in common. When Gemma was passing she told Becca to find out the truth and ever since Becca promise this, she has not let it go. She won’t give up until she finds out the truth! Becca is caring, so caring that is puts up with her sisters even though they are rough on her. Becca is able to see that her sister Sylvia is hurting from the death of their Gemma even though she shows it by being angry. Becca is able to see this because she is that caring person.
Becca is one of the main characters in the book. She is the most caring and compassionate out of her entire family towards her grandmother. Gemma and Becca are a lot alike because of her red hair and there ability to tell the story of Sleeping Beauty so well. Becca cares a lot about her grandmother and was the only one coming to see her every week. After Gemma died Becca has been the only one that has really been concerned or interested about learning about Gemma’s past and where she came from. Becca is motivated to learn about grandmothers past because of the story of Sleeping Beauty that her grandmother always told. Other people like her sisters view Becca as too caring and weird because she cares and spent so much time with Gemma and trying to figure out her past. I think that Becca is being realistic wanting to find out her grandmothers past. This is something that’s important to her since she spent so much time with Gemma. It’s also realistic because none of them know anything about their grandmothers past so Becca is simply just trying to get answers for herself and the rest of her family.
I agree how Becca is the main character in the story she is truly a individual who cares about her Gemma. In Briar Rose Becca took care of her grandmother like she always did. I also agree how she was the only one who was concerned after her grandmothers death. Sylvia and Shana both think Gemma was Delusional but she wasn’t and I agree that Gemma’s past is where she came from. Seeing how Becca loves her grandma makes me see how her sisters are truly missing out on something they should cherish. I agree all Becca wants is the truth about Gemma.
I agree, Becca is a very compassionate person. She is definitely more compassionate than her sisters, Sylvia and Shana. She is willing to make sacrifices to see her grandmother everyday, and her sisters are not. They are too caught up in their lives, and don’t make time to come and see Gemma. Becca has a lot in common with her grandmother, like their hair color and how they both are similar to the girl in Briar Rose. However, the other girls don’t share this with Gemma, and they have grown tired of her story, but Becca still continues to listen to the story because it makes her grandmother happy to tell it.
I agree with you as well Bethany, Becca is the most caring and compassionate person in her entire family. She was always with her grandmother and was very much like her. They both had red hair and both loved story telling. Becca is very determined and interested in learning about Gemma’s past like who she really is. Becca’s sisters Sylvia and Shana do think she is weird because she is so interested in her past and wants to know more about her. I also agree with you that what she is doing is realistic because anyone would be curious if they were left those kinds of things in a box and didn’t know anything about the grandmother.
Thats one way of putting, and a better way than mine. Becca is so much like her grandmother and really feels like she owes it to her to figure out Gemma’s past. It is also very true that Becca was the only one that was really concerned about her grandmothers death. Her sisters barely even wanted to go visit her in the nursing home while she was alive. Becca on the other hand enjoyed it she did not care about giving up other things in order to go see her grandmother. Becca even loved her grandmother enough to just sit with her and listen to her tell the story of Sleeping Beaty over and over again no matter how many times she has heard it. No matter what her sisters would say or tell her she always was the one to take after her grandmother.
I agree with you about how compassionate Becca is. She truly cares for her grandmother in a way that no one else does. Her sisters, hardly wanted anything to do with Gemma and are now giving Becca grief because she wants to find the truth out about her past. Becca loved her grandmother more than any of them do and would do anything to make Gemma happy. She always, sat with her in the nursing home and loved hearing Gemma tell the story about Sleeping Beauty and I think thats how Becca and Gemma connect the most.
I agree with you Bethany. Becca is the closest one with her grandmother out of the family. I think it is very unfortunant that her sisters view Becca as werid and too caring. All she wants to do is make her grandmother happy.
I agree that Becca is also realistic in wanting to discover her grandmothers past. I honestly do not get how anyone would not want to find out where they come from and what their heritage is, especially when its all wrapped in mystery like Gemma’s is. I also agree that she is a very caring person towards everyone she knows, like Gemma who she was very close too. She would even go out of her way to visit her everyday just so she didn’t end up like the crazy people in the nursing home. Her sisters complained about even visiting her once a year.
Becca is the youngest out of three children. She has two older sisters named Sylvia and Shana who are much closer with each other than they are with Becca. She is a young woman in her twenties and has a small job working for the newspaper. Becca is much more interested in learning about the past of their grandmother who they call “Gemma” than either of her sisters. Becca was also much closer with Gemma than her sisters were. We learn that Becca has red hair just like her grandmother did and that she has a love for storytelling and writing, also like her grandmother. When Gemma passes, the family finds a box filled with all of her belongings and the one who is most intrigued by all of it is Becca. She even loses sleep over the contents of the box making her character curious and determined. Becca’s sisters often times overlook her and the things that she says, however readers can see a close relationship between Becca and her parents. She is also a very kind person and this is shown several times in the reading. So far in the story, Becca’s character shows an overwhelming amount of determination and even humility.
I think her life is on the right track and she is very determined and kind as you say. Becca can not pass up that box. When you say that Becca uses sleep over the box I do agree with you when you say ” her character is curious and determined.” I personally think that her sisters should step in and help her because I mean that is there grandma to, but they don’t care enough about the box and the fairytail to help her. But in return she is close with her parents. Her father does not get in her way of what she is trying to figure out.
I agree, Becca is more interested in learning about Gemma’s past, definitely compared to his sisters. She is closer to Gemma than her sisters, which is proven in the book. Becca makes an effort to see her grandmother at the nursing home, which her siblings don’t do. They have grown tired of the story Briar Rose, while Becca still continues to listen to the story. She knows her grandmother likes telling the story, so she listens to it. She is definitely closer to Gemma, and even promises Gemma to find the castle in her story. It may be impossible, but she makes an effort to solve the mystery of her grandma’s past.
I think that Becca is a very realistic character. Nobody but her believes the story that her grandmother has told. Becca is a very curious girl that wants to learn the truth about her grandmother. Becca has stayed up during the night, sorting through the pictures and pieces that has been left behind and is determined that she will find an answer and that the story that her Gemma has been telling her is not made up, the thought of Becca trying to prove everyone else wrong in thinking that her grandmother’s story is a tale, also factors into Becca being the youngest of the children. I feel as if Becca believes it is her duties to prove her older siblings wrong and to have a competitive edge with the siblings.
I tell you what Nicole I couldn’t agree with you more completely. I mean, the way you say things and make your points. I agree Nicole. Your response is very descripted. I think that it is sweet Becca shows such an interest in Gemma and is always trying to be with her and help her. Even though her sisters aren’t very nice, I’m glad you pointed out the relationship we see with her and her parents.
Becca is the youngest sibling out of her two sisters, Sylvia and Shana. She has red hair just like Gemma, and the girl in the story Briar Rose. She is more attached to her grandmother then her sisters, and visits her everyday in the nursing home. She makes time to see Gemma, which reveals how caring she is and how much she loves Gemma. Before Gemma dies, she asks Becca to find the castle in the story. When she passes, the family finds a box and Becca searches to find the answers to her questions. She is upset about her grandmother’s death, and wants to keep her promise to her. Becca stays up, putting the pictures in order, hoping to piece together Gemma’s secret life. Becca is a hard worker, and is the type of person to keep her promise to those she loves. She is a determined woman, motivated to figure out all the secrets Gemma had kept over the years and why she never told anyone. Becca is a really strong individual, especially since she is able to look into Gemma’s past the day after her death. People think she is silly for actually considering Gemma’s story to be somewhat realistic, and that it’s a waste of time to look for the castle in the story. They believe it is just a made up story, but Becca thinks it is more than just a story. This reveals that Becca doesn’t listen to what other’s think, instead she listen’s to her heart. Becca is a very realistic person, which is proven by all of her characteristics in the book.
I believe that Becca is a strong willed women just like stated. She wants to solve the mystery for her family and for her own knowledge of her history. Becca is realistic with the ways she searches for the answer because she uses sources that may have had a lot to do with Gemma’s history. Becca knows that Gemma had her way of telling Sleeping Beauty so she knows that there are many things that she may be trying to tell about without directly telling everyone. Once she figures out the history of her grandmother she will be satisfied with what she has accomplished but since she is a driven women and wants to know all of the facts and will find them no matter what makes her an even better person to find her family heritage.

You made an excellent point when you said that she doesn’t care what others think about her. It’s so true! She is willing to do whatever in order to find out the truth about the contents of the box and although it is very early in the story, we as readers can already tell she is not going to give up looking for answers to unsolved questions about her grandmother!
I love the relationship between Gemma and Becca. Becca treats Gemma with such love and compassion, unlike Shana and Sylvia. Shana and Sylvia are rude to Becca and Gemma. I like that you said, “Becca listens to her heart.” That is such a good explanation of her. I really hope that Becca finds what she is looking for and finds Gemma’s past. I agree that Becca is being realistic. Although Gemma may not have really been Briar Rose, it is nice that Becca does not treat Gemma like she is crazy. Becca is the only one who continues to listen and love Gemma’s fairy tale.
Becca is one of the main characters in Briar Rose. Becca has a physical appearance of having red hair and a medium build. Becca is emotionally engaged with her Gemma and is curious about the story of Briar Rose that Gemma tells Becca, Sylvia and Shana. Becca has a personality that stands out and that is much different then the others, she is curious with everything. One thing that catches Becca’s eyes the most are pictures of her grandmother at a much younger state of age. One night, Becca could not sleep, so she went to the TV and was going through the channels, when she spots a box, her curiosity becomes more engaged. She goes through the pictures for a while until her mother woke her from the exploring of her grandmothers pictures. A simple demand to her mother, Becca asked for Sylvia and Shana to keep from the pictures and not to disturb the organization she had made with them. Becca’s mother is well aware of daughter’s curiousness and would like to know more about Gemma’s experiences. I believe that Becca is realistic because she would like to know about her grandmother and find out more about her.
Becca is a young girl who cares about everyone and is very concerned about her grandmother. She thinks Gemma should be at home with them instead of in a nursing home but she knows it is what is best for Gemma. She is very motivated by her grandmother and all the stories she had told Becca when she was a little girl. Everyone tells her that she is just like her grandmother. They both had red hair and they both are able to tell stories very well, especially the one about Briar Rose. They also say that because of her being able to tell stories so well it helps her with her job in the newspaper. I believe that Becca is a realistic person because she is very curious about her grandmother and her past. Gemma was a big part of Becca’s life which drives Becca to find all these answers about who Gemma really was and where she came from. In reality we would all do what Becca is doing if we were that close to someone and didn’t know who they really were and where they came from.
I agree with you Sabrina, Becca is a very motivated and a strong woman when it comes to situations with her grandmother Gemma. I believe the her grandmother is the sole one responsible for making Becca into the woman she is. She is strong, caring and determined just like her grandmother. Her will and drive to learn about her grandmothers past is extraordinary even though the rest of her family doesn’t care at all. Even though her sisters may have grown up with there grandmother too they didn’t and still don’t care for her the way Becca does. Becca was there to see Gemma everyday in the nursing home and is still there for her even afters she has passed away.

Becca is motivated by her Gemma and the stories that she had been told since she was young by her Gemma. It is amazing that Becca is motivated by such little things from her Gemma, yet she will fully fulfill her promise to her Gemma.
Becca’s character is strong, determined and faithful. Her grandmother is what motivates her. Her and Gemma are very close to one another. By Becca finding the box that she had left everyone, this motivates to find out who Gemma truly was. Other people think of her as crazy and “obsessive-compulsive,” but this doesn’t stop her. Her sisters, Sylvia and Shana tell her it’s just a fairytale and it is a made up story by Gemma. Even though her sisters grew up, started families, and drifted away from the Sleeping Beauty fairytale, Becca didn’t. She was always faithful and loved hearing her grandmother tell the story of Briar Rose. She is determined to fulfill her promise to her grandmother that she will find the castle. The documents with the different dates and names give her another reason to keep searching, and makes her believe that her grandmother may actually be Briar Rose. I do think she is realistic because anything you put your mind to, you can do. All the names and dates on the document make me believe in Gemma, too.
Becca is a main character in the novel Briar Rose. She’s very independent and strong willed. Unlike her sisters she’s still unmarried and without kids which shows how independent she is. She is also very strong willed because she goes to see her Gemma even when no one else does. She is also very determined when they find out about the box and after she promised Gemma she would find the castle, Becca set out without hesitation to figure everything out and solve the mystery surrounding her Gemma. Becca’s motivation seems to be mystery, she works for a local newspaper the Advocate, and is very drawn in with the mystery surrounding her Gemma. Becca’s father knows she’s very driven and thats why he didn’t try to stop her as she was leaving to go think more on the box at work. Her sisters think she spends too much time caring for others and worrying about others than herself. I believe she is very realistic, when Gemma said she was the princess Becca had some doubt about it.
This is very well written. You described and talked about Becca and her character very well. She was close to her grandmother and you displayed that very well. Others viewed her as some what childish when she tries to connect the story of Sleeping Beauty to her grandmother’s real life. Becca is extremely driven to find out the real story of her grandmother and who she was. Her family will soon see if there is a connection between the story and their grandmother.
Becca is one of the main characters in the book. She is a very kind women that is very caring. Her sisters say that she is to into Gemmas past and caring for her but her father believe that it is okay and she is doing fine. I believe that she is very into her Gemmas past and I believe that is okay because that is what makes her be a loving and caring person so much cause she cares so much about her Gemmas and others. I do believe that Becca is realistic. The reason I believe that she is realistic is because someone that is caring and into something that much makes her seem realistic. I agree with this post because Becca is truly faithful to her Gemma and would do anything for her. Unlike her sisters she actually visited Gemma while she was in the nursing home this just proved that she really is a great person. Gemma was all Becca thought about and this post proves that truly. I agree that her sisters were mean to her because she actually cared unlike them. Becca loves hearing about Gemma’s past because she loves trying to figure things out. I also agree that they have a lot in common and Becca’s sister get jealous of the relationship that her and Gemma had was a true thing.
Becca cares for her grandmother, Gemma. She shows this in several ways throughout the story of Briar Rose. Briar Rose stand with her grandmother alot when she was in the nursing home, even when she was asleep. Compared to her sisters who did not stay as long, showing how much of a caring person Becca is. Another attribute of Becca’s is her wanting to discover the past history of her grandmother. This shows that he is trustworthy when she promised her to discover her past. Becca looking to reveal her grandmother’s past by spending her time looking through old pictures and other things she found in Gemma’s chest show’s that she is very driven to this task. Becca believing in Gemma’s story compared to her sibilings and looking past that it might have a connection with the story shows that she is a realistic type of person with the fact that she has a more opened mind. Becca is also very humble because she listens to what Gemma has to say instead of just brushing it off like her other siblings do. Another really good attribute of Becca’s is responsibility in finding out her family’s past which is important to know just not because of knowledge or to have a greater respect on what her grandmother went through but also that history does not repeat itself.

She is overlooked by her sisters, being the baby of the family. Sylvia and Shana don’t care that Becca is upset, and get annoyed when Becca encourages Gemma to tell her story at the nursing home. It seems as though no one takes Becca seriously. They don’t care about how she is feeling with her grandmother. Becca is very upset about her grandmother’s death, and unlike anyone else in the family, she lets it show. She is very hopeful about everything. She believes Gemma’s stories and think that they mean more than just what everyone else gets from them. Becca thinks very deeply about the words her grandmother said and is determined to find a true meaning of her story.
It is sad to me how sweet Becca is, and how cruel her sisters are. Even when Becca mentions her job to them, they are rude and unsupportive. In the nursing home, Becca is so caring of Gemma, while her sisters cannot wait to leave, even from the second they arrive there. They get angry at her for allowing Gemma to tell the story. I agree that she is overlooked by her sisters. Her sisters treat her like she is still a baby and treat her as if she is dumb. I am hopeful that Becca will uncover Gemma’s fairy tale and she will come out of her shell because of it.
I agree that the sisters are very curl to Becca and she should be treated better. Becca is very quite and I agree hopefully she can grow out of her shell and give her sisters a piece of her mind. She is such a lovable person and it is impossible to hate her she spends all of her time trying to help Gemma live the last few days of her life in peace and happiness. Hopefully she finds the truth and keeps her promise to Gemma.
I agree with you that Becca finds a more deeper meaning in Gemma’s story than Slyvia and Shana, which shows how much she cares for her story and to discover Gemma’s past. I thought your post did a great job at describing what kind of person Becca is and why she is treated the way she is by her other siblings, and also how Becca and Gemma have a connection. I should have showed how related Becca was with her grandmother like you did. I also liked how you said Becca is a very hopeful person when it comes to discovering her grandmother’s past which just goes to show how driven she is.

Becca is the main character in Briar Rose and is the youngest of the three sisters. She is also the nicest of the three, which you can clearly see just by looking at how the Sylvia and Shanna act. She was the closest one to Gemma too, visiting her every week. When Gemma dies Becca was the one who was shaken the most by it, and again you see the lack of caring shown by the other two siblings as one even interrupts the burial of Gemma because she was angry for her not dying on a warmer day. She has also promised to Gemma that she will find the castle where she is from and retake her heritage. This shows her love for Gemma by promising her something that sounds completely insane. Personally I think Becca is the strongest out of the three sisters because she was able to show her emotion about the passing of her grandmother instead of marking Gemma off as some lunatic who is better of dead, like her sisters.

Gemma was known for telling a fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty, and she believed she lived the fairy tale. Becca was the only person of the family that listened to Gemma and did not get annoyed by her far fetched beliefs. Gemma’s last words to Becca were, “I am Briar Rose…I am Briar Rose.” Gemma begged and made Becca swear that she would find the castle, the prince and the maker of her spells. After Gemma passed, the family was given a large box of Gemma’s, filled with papers, documents, pictures and other various items from Gemma’s past. Becca was the only one who was very intrigued and interested in finding out more about Gemma’s past. Becca is determined to find out her grandmother’s past.
Becca shows how much she cares for her grandmother, Gemma and Sylvia and Shana don’t show that they care. Becca is asking questions and wants to hear what her grandma has to say, but she catches a lot of grief for it from her two older sisters. For being the youngest in her family Becca is definitely a leader. Once she finds all the things in the box that are from Gemma’s past that gives Becca even more motivation to find out what her grandma’s past is all about.

After the passing of Gemma the family reveals a box and Becca is determined to find out all about Gemma’s secret life. Becca knows that she still has to keep her promise to her grandmother through all of this. She is strong willed and will fight through the tough emotions she has through her grandmother’s death. Many people find it ridiculous that Becca finds Gemma’s story to be realistic and they think she is just wasting her time. Becca is determined and also a very kind person during this reading.
I do agree that she is more attached to her Grandmother and not so much to her sister. And even though Gemma is dead Becca never gave up on what the box was about. Your right that many people do find it ridiculous that Becca does find her Gemma’s story real, but that is what she believed in and her sister not so much. Becca wants to know what is in that box and does not give up in wanting to know what it is about. And I think that Becca’s father knows that she is determined and he doesn’t want to bother her in what she is doing. I think that if she was close with her sisters she wouldn’t be so determined.
Becca is a very caring girl who is just like her grandmother. When we first met the girls Becca was the only one who cared to visit Gemma when she was ill and in the nursing home. Becca is driven because Gemma told her to go and find the castle she was talking about in the flashbacks and she is keeping her promise. She is a writer and to be a writer she would have to be driven to research and put effort into doing her job, which means she will do the same for Gemma. Becca is a very faithful and honest person meaning she is willing to do what it takes and be truthful about it. She is hoping to discover what Gemma’s secret life was really about. The novel takes place in modern day but also talks about the book Sleeping Beauty and in these flashbacks Gemma talks about something similar to sleeping beauty and Becca is trying to figure her out. During the funeral for Gemma Becca was the only who actually dealt with the situation and was strong and faithful about it her sisters basically brushed it to the side and forgot about Gemma fast and Becca was still mourning over her grandma and this shows that she is a very individual person.
I agree with you Madison. I believe that she is very driven because of her grandmother. I also believe that she is very faithful and truthful because she does keep her promise with her grandmother. She being the only person that didn’t really brush off her grandma death and is still mourning over it also shows that she is very kind and caring. I also think maybe when she was younger she had a closer relationship with her grandma and that is why she is more “driven” to her grandmother then the other grand-children. Even though the other siblings aren’t as close as Gemma as Becca and the other sister say that she is to close to her but I believe that she is just that close to her because she is so caring.
In the novel Briar Rose Becca is the main character, she shows how strong she is and doesn’t back down. In the Novel Becca promises Gemma that she will find the castle when they found out about the box. I feel like her and her father are close. Her fathers excepts how driven she and he does not want her to stop what she is doing. She two younger sisters Shana and Sylvia her sisters don’t like how she cares to much for others and doesn’t so much worry about herself. Shana and Sylvia are still married and she is not and she doesn’t have children, she is independent. Becca is always thinking more about the box. I feel that Gemma has a very important roll in her life and she looks up to her. Becca left everyone to find the box and she is motivated finding the box because she is figuring out who Gemma really is. Her sister didn’t believe in the fairy-tail but Becca does believe in the fairy-tail. Becca is very determined to keep the promise that she made to Gemma.

He sisters think she is foolish for wanting to hear the same story over and over. When her grandma passes away the family is left with a box. Becca notices the top of the box has a briar and a rose upon it and begins to wonder. She tries to piece the story that her grandma told to what could possibly be a real part in her grandma’s life. The family tries to tell Becca that it was just a story but she feels as if there is more to it. She is determined to find out who her grandma really was and uses the findings from the box to help her discover the truth.

Becca, being the youngest of the three sisters, isn’t exactly a runt, but definitely the person who gets picked on the most. Especially by her sisters. The reader first sees the slightest hint of this on the fist page: “”seepin boot. Seepin boot.” Shana made a face. Even when she had been little herself she’d never spoken it baby talk.” This little fragment shows that even when Becca was a baby, people looked down on her. As she grows older and becomes an adult, people still see her below themselves. Becca doesn’t seem to be childish, or immature, she seems to be more optimistic in what she’s doing. And to the others, her optimism may just seem unrealistic or immature. I believe that she happens to be very realistic, just full of hope at the same time.

Becca is very determined girl once she sets her mind to it she does it. As soon as they found that ring you could tell that she wanted to find out where it was from and who’s it was and she wasn’t going to stop till she knew. It is the same thing as when she promises Gemma she will find the castle and where Gemma is from . When she started reading to the kids and one of the kids said that she doesn’t want to tell the story of sleeping beauty because it was Gemmas story and they think that Gemmas ghost will be mad. But Becca tells them that they think that Gemma would want them to read the story and that Gemmas ghost would be smiling and happy. Even though Jews don’t believe in ghost. There you can see how Becca is a leader and how well she is with her sisters and How much she knows about Gemma and how mature she is even in those kind of situations. Her two older sisters tend to overlook her very often and they could actually learn a couple of things from their younger sister.
